Every time we walk through a mall, so many people stop to ask us about the gadget on Lesedi’s wrist, I’ve noticed that it’s the dads who are quite drawn to his dokiWatch, but the kids equally so. It’s a lovely bright shade of yellow, you can’t miss it and you almost want to eat it.
So what is the dokiWatch?
It is a wearable, 3G smartwatch for kids between the ages of 6-12 years. It combines video calling, voice calling, messaging and location tracking capabilities into one smart device. After a few weeks of exploring with the dokiWatch, I’m not surprised that it has earned the title of “the worlds most advanced 3G smart watch for kids”. The technology and functionality puts this device in a class of its own.
Lesedi has been begging for a cellphone for the longest time and although we have a few spare ones in the house, I’ve never felt comfortable with allowing him to have one as his own. He’s only 8 and the “connected world” is a crazy place, with waaay too much inappropriate content, that is difficult to monitor and sensor. I personally don’t think that he is ready for a smartphone, so the dokiWatch has become the perfect connectivity solution for our family. It’s safe and gives us peace of mind; while simultaneously allowing him the freedom to stay connected, positively engaged and explore the world of technology.
My favourite features:
Full parental control: firstly, and most importantly, the dokiWatch allows for absolute transparency across all it’s superb features with the Doki app, which is downloaded to the parents phone. The app allows you to manage your child’s device and contacts effortlessly.
Calling: I love that I can get hold of him at any time and visa-versa and he enjoys the fact that he can contact his grannies. Every call is received with lots of excitement. Again, through parental control, I’m able to pre-set the phone numbers which he can receive calls from or make calls to.
GPS-location tracking: I’ve downloaded the Doki app on my cellphone, so I’m able to track his whereabouts at all times. Bonus: the app doesn’t use up a lot of space on your phone 🙂
SOS alert: this additional safety feature allows the dokiWatch to send immediate SOS alerts to parents, by pressing the red SOS button for 3 seconds; an emergency notification and immediate update on your child’s location will be sent to all contacts on the family list.
Fitness tracking: dokiPet is a virtual pet that acts as a fitness tracker. The built-in accelerometer encourages the little ones to stay active by tracking steps.
Other fab features:
Class-mode: your child can easily wear their dokiWatch to school, without breaking any of the rules. The class-mode feature allows a parent to remotely deactivate your child’s dokiWatch at set times, such as during class.
Emoji’s: kids can send fun emoji’s to their family members and friends from their watch
- Alarm clock
- Battery life: 24-36 hours under normal usage
- 3G connectivity
- Both iOS and Android compatible
- Touch screen
- Comes in AMAZING colours that children love
- Makes the perfect birthday gift too
- Uses a Nano sim which is affordable and easily available at your local cellular network provider
Overall, I’ve enjoyed seeing my little man step up and become a little more responsible by always ensuring that his watch is kept safe and fully charged.
